In the past 3 decades of its existence, Damas Company Pvt Ltd is among those few companies in the country with the least turnover rate. Among its 150 employees, 50% has worked in the company for more than 10 years. Damas takes pride in having one of the lowest staff turnover rates in the nation.
Employing close to 150 staff throughout its various outlets and places of business, the company’s secret to success may be found in the care taken to keep its employees engaged and inspired. Throughout its history, Damas has strived to develop a sense of belonging between the company and its remarkable staff. The employees are made to feel valued and comfortable in their work environment. It has long been the company tradition to celebrate various occasions and international days of commemoration within the organization. All members of the organization are encouraged to participate which creates the impression that each individual is a part of the extended Damas family.
What does it take for employees to be loyal to one company for such a long term?
When asked with this question, the former storekeeper of the company, Mr. Mohamed Fahmy who is now the GM, the stock controller told that Damas values its employees and treats them with respects and the chairman of the company keeps a close relationship with all its employees. This year marks 18 years of service by Mr. Fahmy to the company.
Like Mr. Fahmy the Director of Accounts and finance, Mr. Kuhan, also has been working in the company for more than 18 years, in his view, Damas is his “Second home”. Mr. Kuhan first worked as an accountant.
For the employees, Damas is not just a place of work it is part of their home, a place where they have grown, and a place that has helped them when in need.
Based on the above observations loyal employees are created when companies take good care of its employees. A sense of belonging makes employees stay in one company.
